It may be that I.E. is set to work offline. Try this; Open Internet Explorer, Select File at the top left of the screen and see that 'work offline' is not ticked. If it is, just click on it to untick it.
If thats not the problem, check that the internet connection is open by going to Start - Connect To - and select your modem. Make sure the modem cable is plugged in so that the pc can dial out.
It may be that the shortcut icon no longer connects to I.E. so try accessing it through the Start button, not the desktop shortcut.
Try to get a copy of a program called TweakUI by searching for it on Microsofts website. Install and open that, and look for the I.E. section. You can use TweakUI to restore Internet Explorer. Try doing that to see if you get it working again.
If neither of these works, please post back with more info.

Can you be a little more specific please,
You say you have "some sort of IE"

Many of these " not found" problem are due to the Browser cache needing to be cleared. The Browser cache is where all the Temporary Files and Cookies are stored. IE is generally set to store large numbers of Temp. Files and after a time they prevent the computer from accessing web sites. Try this and see if it clear your problem.
Go to Tools%26gt;Internet Options%26gt;General tab%26gt;Click the Delete Cookies%26gt;Delete Files (in the window that appears check the box for Delete Offline Content.)%26gt;Clear History buttons.%26gt; Click Apply. Now go to the Sites button(next to Delete Files) and in this window change the large number down to 50. Click OK then OK again.
If you are using DSL by the Phone company or Cable, your DSL modem could be cluttered and assisting in this problem. Turn off or unplug the modem, computer and then monitor in this order. Wait 1 or 2 mins and then restart in reverse order. This will clear the modem and your RAM.
Now try to get access to your sites or pages now. Remember, It might take a few seconds for your computer to lock onto the site or page. I clear my cache every couple of days and did so last night. Today it took about a minute for the Yahoo Answers page to appear.
