How do I fix IE 7 desktop icon, which when double-clicked only creates a "shortcut to internet

Double-clicking doesn't open the browser; it only creates another icon on the desktop. I have WinXP SP2.

Delete the desktop icon

Find the icon for the application and right click on it,

Choose the option to create a shortcut
Go into add and remove programs and remove IE7.Then reinstall it after you reboot.
